At The Common Good, interns work closely with staff to produce and publicize speaker's events with high profile leaders in politics, media and business and use social media to outreach to the public to try to make our political system function better.

If you're interested in politics and public policy or looking to hone skills in research, messaging and communications, event organizing and production, social media outreach, or want to help a growing non-profit grow bigger and more effective, you will learn and use real-world skills that will stay with you forever and look great on your resume.

Duties may include:

  • Assisting with event planning, execution, and post-event wrap-up.

  • Research on issues, public policy, media, and key political figures.

  • Interaction with our members and VIPs—at events, over the phone and email.

  • Designing and setting up effective and visually arresting social media, website and video content.

  • Assisting in digital work and writing for our website.

  • Some video editing, including transcription, subtitling and effects insertion.

  • Writing features pieces for the website on current affairs issues.

  • Help conceptualizing new events based on hot topic issues, book releases, and current affairs.


    Qualifications:

  • Social Media skills, including copywriting and graphic design for Facebook, Twitter, etc.

  • Interest in current affairs (national and/or international)

  • Strong writing and communication- Good at detail, follow up and organizing- Motivated self-starter with ability to work independently and willingness to learn

  • Courteous and VIP phone and interpersonal skills

  • Event experience a plus

  • Knowledge of SquareSpace and social networking tools is helpful

  • Basic computer software-i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint or Photoshop; video editing software such as iMovie, Adobe Premier and Final Cut Pro

  • Minimum of 15 hours per week commitment.

  • Currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate studies

  • Recently graduated
